The Marathon Crash Race 2013

RACE #1 The Marathon Crash Race March 17th 2013

The Marathon Crash Race is a road race across Los Angeles from the East to the Beach. The course is the pre-dawn Marathon route - approximately 26 miles of LA streets. At 4AM, Marathon workers begin to barricade the streets and shortly after that is when this race takes place. This is the world's largest unsanctioned, non-permited race. However we are working with the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD to facilitate safe passage. First place Mens / Womens / Fixed Gear / Free-Wheel will receive Wolfpack Hustle Dog Tags, All new 2013 Chrome Coveted Jerseys and prize swag. We will attempt to capture the top 16 finishers in each category who will receive points in the series and free entry to Race #2.

>>>> PRE ORDER THE OFFICIAL T-SHIRT AND WATER BOTTLE <<<<

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

CLICK HERE TO GET ON THE RESERVE REGISTRATION LIST and get a chance to receive an unclaimed number at the REG PARTY.

SAFETY

We love the City of Los Angeles, the city that Wolfpack Hustle was born and raised. We are coordinating with LAPD to assist in SAFE passage of this ride through multiple jurisdictions. PLEASE THANK any / all of the friendly officers who are there to help protect you. Note that they are NOT there to ESCORT the ride, they are there to help keep it safe. They can only do so much. A simple "THANK YOU officer" goes a long way. Lights, Helmets and Brakes are required. We aren't kidding. The race mixes multiple categories of bikes and riders into one massive race. We want EVERYONE to ride safe and mix cohesively. Fixie whipping and skids can cause pile ups if the person behind you is not prepared. Be prepared. Keep your spacing. The streets are NOT completely closed. This race is not permitted, and unsanctioned. Riders MUST be cautious and ALERT. Cross traffic, City vehicles and equipment may exist on the course. There is no official support of any kind for this ride. If you see someone down, please stop to help, be a good Samaritan. CALL EVERYTHING OUT - COMMUNICATE Potholes, cracks, cars left cars right cars up!! Understand that 95% of the thousand or so people who come out are just there to have some fun. Keep it chill. Keep it turtle. Don't feel like you have to be jamming at top speed the whole time. Enjoy life. Celebrate the Ugly!

GATHER AT 3:30AM TANG'S DONUT. ROLLING START AT 4:30AM(ISH)

The race will gather at Tang's Donut at Sunset and Fountain Ave. 4341 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 There will be a barrier at the start that will separate two groups of riders. Riders who have completed their registration and have attached their bib numbers in the proper position will be allowed to enter the Front of the mass. Riders who have not registered will occupy the rear of the mass. REGISTER NOW for this race.

THE ROLLING START

We will gather at Tang's Donut at Sunset and Fountain Ave. 4341 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 The start of the race is a SLOW ROLLING START that will GATHER at 3:30AM and roll at approximately 4:30AM At the signal of ROADBLOCK (the big tall guy in the video) and in conjunction with the LAPD squad car, the ROLLING START will begin SLOWLY rolling east on Sunset towards the start line located at Echo Park Blvd. and Sunset. ANYONE who rides ahead of Roadblock during the rolling start WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. The race will begin at Echo Park Blvd. on an incline. Riders must stay on course. NO SKITCHING ALLOWED. NO SHORT CUTS ALLOWED. SHARP TURNS. HOLD YOUR LINES.

THE COURSE - BEWARE OF INTERSECTIONS

WARNING: THE COURSE MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY CLOSED TO TRAFFIC. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Keep your eyes open, stay alert, look ahead 10 feet to 200 feet. Enter all intersections with caution. Call out EVERYTHING you see. Help your brothers and sisters get through. Intersections are the most precarious of situations. Blind spots, drunk drivers, cars simply getting through. Always slow up and take the intersection only if you know that it is clear. STOP for all reds and proceed with caution on flashing reds only after LAPD escort has cleared the way. KEEP YOUR SPACING. HOLD YOUR LINE - ESPECIALLY AROUND CORNERS DO NOT GET LOST IN SOMEONE'S WHEEL. CALL EVERYTHING AS YOU SEE IT.   View Marathon Crash Route Map in a larger map

THE FINISH

The finish line is located at MONTANA and OCEAN in Santa Monica. The north plane of the crosswalk is the official line. View Marathon Crash Route Map in a larger map

VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU!

This race is a wildin' ass beast! We need help with registration and we ESPECIALLY need help with ROUTE MARSHALS who would be available to watch over some key intersections and make sure to slow and warn cars that the front is coming. Once the front gets through, come join the ride and witness the  celebration at the end. If you are able to volunteer please send and email to marathoncrash@wolfpackhustle.com subject: VOLUNTEER. Thanks!

PARKING

Do NOT park at Tang's Donut parking lot. Do NOT park on Sunset as this is part of the Marathon course and at exactly 4AM an army of tow trucks prowl the route. Lots of people actually park at the FINISH line and ride to the start or get a ride to the start. If you have ANY other questions about parking please contact Sean Martin.

Hey guys, I’m Matt in NYC… New York hasn’t had a drag race in years, so I’ve taken it upon myself to throw one a few weeks after Monster Track. This is my first alleycat production so I had hoped you could offer some advice on throwing specifically a drag race, oh and also advice on any sponsors that yu think would be particularly into being involved.

    Thanks again!

So what’s LAPD’s involvement in this? I know it’s not sanctioned, but are they going to start grabbing and arresting bikers for trespassing?
I’m just going for fun, also. I’ll register, but I don’t want to really be grouped with the racers and would prefer to hang back. Is that OK, or if I have a bib number I have to be upfront?

you dont need to be grouped in the front and your registration is appreciated! We prefer to keep only the serious competitors there and the rest of the people back in the ride area. register for the party invite and have a great time riding the course at your own pace!

the LAPD are being headed up by Senior Lead Officer Gordon Smith who has been not only a friend of the bike community but has been a champion for this cause. He is putting his neck out there so that the people can come out and have a good time and to keep this as safe as possible. We are absolutely stoked to have the LAPD on board for this.

Tom, the return route after the race will be the marathon, so you can’t take it back. However, there are much more direct routes back to Tang’s, not even 20 miles if you think you can manage that. If not, you can ride to Culver City and take the Metro Expo subway back to Downtown and bike to Tang’s. That will cut off about ten miles from the return trip. There’s always the bus lines, too.
And with the weather we’ve been having, I suggest spending the day in Santa Monica/Venice to rest up, and just bike back in the afternoon. It’s Saint Patty’s Day! Grab a cold on, soak up some cancer, and enjoy the local entertainment :)

We overbooked the numbers. But we are working on a strategy to get people on a reserve list.

      Thanks for your patience.

yes. photocopy your ID and staple it to your signed waiver. Numbers MAY run out so we reserve the right to delay or refuse issuing a number to anyone who is not present. we want everyone who shows up, to ride away with a number.

Because registration is closed, can riders still show up and ride. Is there any chance to receive a BIB.

Just a lighting question: My rear light is attached to ME, not to the bike, though it’s plenty bright. Though I assume this will be cool, I’ve learned never to make assumptions. Am I good, or do I need a light bolted to the bike?

    Thanks

    Roadblock,

I accidentally deleted the email containing the directions to the registration party. I downloaded the waiver form before the email got deleted and I have my confirmation number. Is there a way I can get the directions emailed to me again?

Had a real great time with my buddy Steven! Made some new friends, saw some parts of L.A. I’d never seen before, and got a great work out! Thanks to Wolfpack Hustle for putting on this event, thanks to LAPD for keeping us safe, and thanks to the bike community of L.A. for making it fun! See everyone at the next event!
Also, was I too slow and missed the raffle? Didn’t make the finish line until like 6:30.

2013 Wolfpack Hustle Crash Race. This is a race, a movement that all who love a bicycle must attend. Listen to your inner child, he/she wants to play at all hours of the night and why not at @ 0200. This was the best time that I can remember ever riding/racing my bicycle. I’m asking you, nay, I challenge you to race the WolfPack Hustle Series. This is a movement that you will never forget and it may just change your perspective of what racing a bicycle is truly about. With all of the hubbub of doping and negative crap WolfPack is the real deal that is all about having a good time with friends and others who dare to race at all hours of the day. Trust me you need to experience this.

    Love!
