RACE #1 The Marathon Crash Race March 17th 2013
The Marathon Crash Race is a road race across Los Angeles from the East to the Beach. The course is the pre-dawn Marathon route - approximately 26 miles of LA streets. At 4AM, Marathon workers begin to barricade the streets and shortly after that is when this race takes place. This is the world's largest unsanctioned, non-permited race. However we are working with the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD to facilitate safe passage. First place Mens / Womens / Fixed Gear / Free-Wheel will receive Wolfpack Hustle Dog Tags, All new 2013 Chrome Coveted Jerseys and prize swag. We will attempt to capture the top 16 finishers in each category who will receive points in the series and free entry to Race #2.

We love the City of Los Angeles, the city that Wolfpack Hustle was born and raised. We are coordinating with LAPD to assist in SAFE passage of this ride through multiple jurisdictions. PLEASE THANK any / all of the friendly officers who are there to help protect you. Note that they are NOT there to ESCORT the ride, they are there to help keep it safe. They can only do so much. A simple "THANK YOU officer" goes a long way. Lights, Helmets and Brakes are required. We aren't kidding. The race mixes multiple categories of bikes and riders into one massive race. We want EVERYONE to ride safe and mix cohesively. Fixie whipping and skids can cause pile ups if the person behind you is not prepared. Be prepared. Keep your spacing. The streets are NOT completely closed. This race is not permitted, and unsanctioned. Riders MUST be cautious and ALERT. Cross traffic, City vehicles and equipment may exist on the course. There is no official support of any kind for this ride. If you see someone down, please stop to help, be a good Samaritan. CALL EVERYTHING OUT - COMMUNICATE Potholes, cracks, cars left cars right cars up!! Understand that 95% of the thousand or so people who come out are just there to have some fun. Keep it chill. Keep it turtle. Don't feel like you have to be jamming at top speed the whole time. Enjoy life. Celebrate the Ugly!GATHER AT 3:30AM TANG'S DONUT. ROLLING START AT 4:30AM(ISH)
The race will gather at Tang's Donut at Sunset and Fountain Ave. 4341 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 There will be a barrier at the start that will separate two groups of riders. Riders who have completed their registration and have attached their bib numbers in the proper position will be allowed to enter the Front of the mass. Riders who have not registered will occupy the rear of the mass. REGISTER NOW for this race.
THE ROLLING START
We will gather at Tang's Donut at Sunset and Fountain Ave. 4341 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90027 The start of the race is a SLOW ROLLING START that will GATHER at 3:30AM and roll at approximately 4:30AM
THE COURSE - BEWARE OF INTERSECTIONS
WARNING: THE COURSE MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY CLOSED TO TRAFFIC. RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Keep your eyes open, stay alert, look ahead 10 feet to 200 feet. Enter all intersections with caution. Call out EVERYTHING you see. Help your brothers and sisters get through. Intersections are the most precarious of situations. Blind spots, drunk drivers, cars simply getting through. Always slow up and take the intersection only if you know that it is clear. STOP for all reds and proceed with caution on flashing reds only after LAPD escort has cleared the way. KEEP YOUR SPACING. HOLD YOUR LINE - ESPECIALLY AROUND CORNERS DO NOT GET LOST IN SOMEONE'S WHEEL. CALL EVERYTHING AS YOU SEE IT. View Marathon Crash Route Map in a larger mapTHE FINISH

what domain is your email address from? gmail.com? yahoo.com?
we’ve been having issues with spam folders grabbing our emails. please set your spam filter to receive all emails from city grounds .com email me with your address and I will re-send the email to you.
send the email you used to register to raodblock at wolfpackhustle dot com and we will get you set up.
Hey guys, I’m Matt in NYC… New York hasn’t had a drag race in years, so I’ve taken it upon myself to throw one a few weeks after Monster Track. This is my first alleycat production so I had hoped you could offer some advice on throwing specifically a drag race, oh and also advice on any sponsors that yu think would be particularly into being involved.
Thanks again!

Are aero bars allowed ?
No tt bikes or aero bars allowed for safety reasons to protect other riders. Apologies for not mentioning.
do riders have to keep up with pack or just out to try something different.we are novice riders.
ride at your own pace and enjoy. about 90% of the mass are there to just enjoy a nice ride to Santa Monica
Hey Roadblock, what were the winning times for last years racers? I can’t find them anywhere.
we dont actually keep accurate times for the race… usually the front group is about 50 minutes I believe…
If we just want to ride the Marathon Crash, not race, do we have to register?
nope. but if you don’t register you wont have a chance to win the raffle prize package at the end.
Can you recommend a place to park near Tang’s Donut? Me and my friends will be coming from Orange County.
there are a lot of adjacent neighborhoods in the area and streets where you can park..
Seems like legitimate rules. I’m going to try and document this and make a great video.
http://www.blog.thednalife.net
See it on the blog above.
we need help with our official documentary. can you help us cover?
We would love to help. What would you require? Send me an email.
devin@dnaimagery.com
Are volunteers being contacted for there areas of duty, or do we have to go to the registration party to be assigned positions.
?: do you require both front and rear lights can a competitor skate by with one or the other?
Looking forward to registering!
front and rear lights please. thanks
Is there a planned return route to Tangs?
usually groups form at the finish line and make their way back based on consensus.
Yo roadblock Im 17 im tryin to get the waiver but I haven’t received anything in my email
What can I do now
check your spam folder for the email. sometimes it gets thrown in there. print out the waiver and have your parent sign it.
hey roadblock im 17 years old where do i get a parent waver paper at?
register at http://www.citygrounds.com/wolfpackhustle if you are 17 then you need to get a parent to fill out the online waiver to gain access to an email with a print-able waiver. bring the printed signed waiver to the registration party and retrieve your bib number….
Created a version of the route to “see” the hills. Feedback on the route needed. http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/178525696
this is awesome! thanks!
that link was greatr help, ive been wanting to see how steep the hills are, and that cleared everything up. thanks!
Hi Roadblock! May I quote/use some of your verbiage from this page to promote the race on my group’s website? The Wolfpack Hussle site will be given credit.
Yo roadblock if your under 18 but you get the waiver signed those the parent have to go to the retriving number party ?
no
What time do all riders have to be off the course? Will some people doing a reverse route after they finish initial course?
everyone needs to be off the course by 6:30AM please. People usually form impromtu groups and ride back to wherever they need to go after the ride is over.
Here’s hoping for warm weather.
do non racers need a brake and if so, can they just have a front brake?
front brake is fine.
Hey Roadblock, I cant make it the day before to pick up my number. Can a friend get it for me?
yes. photocopy your ID and staple it to your signed waiver. Numbers MAY run out so we reserve the right to delay or refuse issuing a number to anyone who is not present. we want everyone who shows up, to ride away with a number.
Is it required to wear a helmet ever if your not racing or registering?
yes.
So what’s LAPD’s involvement in this? I know it’s not sanctioned, but are they going to start grabbing and arresting bikers for trespassing?
I’m just going for fun, also. I’ll register, but I don’t want to really be grouped with the racers and would prefer to hang back. Is that OK, or if I have a bib number I have to be upfront?
you dont need to be grouped in the front and your registration is appreciated! We prefer to keep only the serious competitors there and the rest of the people back in the ride area. register for the party invite and have a great time riding the course at your own pace!
the LAPD are being headed up by Senior Lead Officer Gordon Smith who has been not only a friend of the bike community but has been a champion for this cause. He is putting his neck out there so that the people can come out and have a good time and to keep this as safe as possible. We are absolutely stoked to have the LAPD on board for this.
Cheers, Roadblock. See everyone there!
How do we get in as a marshal for intersections?
I can’t ride but I want to help out! Get me a link or call me
(310)384-3650
AWESOME! We need you! please email Sara thesarabond@gmail.com
Just found out my schedule has me working 12-8 Saturday and I have a 6 hour drive from Phoenix to LA. Is there any special circumstances or anyone I can email that can allow me to pick up my bib # after the 10PM cutoff Saturday night?
If you know someone that will be at the party you can get them a copy of your signed waiver with photocopy of your ID. Do you know Mehdi from State Bikes?
State can’t make any promises with their hectic schedule. Anyone else willing to pick up my number with theirs? Would greatly appreciate it and can send Waiver/Scanned ID via email, USPS, etc. Email BreakAwayFLMS@gmail.com if you can help a brother out!
did you get this worked out?
I’ve tried to register a few times already and it keeps telling me I must be 18 or older to register for this event. I have not received an email and I have checked my spam. What do I do?
you need to have your parent fill out the online form. they will receive an email with further instructions and a link to the waiver.
What is a general good route to ride back to Tangs that will not interfere with the Marathon ?
We like Colorado generally to Santa Monica and then Charleville through Beverly Hills to 8th st then up to 4th street.
Please check out our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/wolfpackhustle for info as well.
R helmets absolutely required?
YES
I plan on riding a single speed…It freewheels…Do I enter into the fixed gear category or the roadbike category?
freewheel category. same as road bikes
Hey I’m 17, and I was wondering if you could Email me the waiver from to get signed by my parents. Also how do I register with my birthdate if it will repeatedly tell me that I need to be 18 to register?
you parent needs to fill out the form with their information then print waiver and both you and your parent sign.
Ok, Thanks. now the only issue is that the link is not opening. It keeps taking me to citygrounds but it says there is a error with the link.
Where around Tang’s would you recommend parking??
would recommend parking at a halfway point between beach and tangs. some big street somewhere south of the course.
Ayee Roadblock, is there any SPECIFIC requirements about our bikes we need to have?
brakes
no TT bikes
lights front and back
And is it sunday morning 3:30 am? Or monday morning 3:30 am?
Anyone tryin to park in Santa Monica, and have a group car to ride to the start line? I’m travelin’ from outta town and trying not to have to ride back the route after the race.
Tom, the return route after the race will be the marathon, so you can’t take it back. However, there are much more direct routes back to Tang’s, not even 20 miles if you think you can manage that. If not, you can ride to Culver City and take the Metro Expo subway back to Downtown and bike to Tang’s. That will cut off about ten miles from the return trip. There’s always the bus lines, too.
And with the weather we’ve been having, I suggest spending the day in Santa Monica/Venice to rest up, and just bike back in the afternoon. It’s Saint Patty’s Day! Grab a cold on, soak up some cancer, and enjoy the local entertainment :)
Ok Thanks!! I wasn’t sure what the parking would be like at Tang’s, and I may not be able to live up the green day as much as I should. On the road again.
Hello. I’m not a quick rider, but I do want to participate. How long is the ride window before we need to clear the course?
a couple hours. you will need to be off by6:30am. They will be sure to let you know. :)
I have a question. I have printed the waiver and signed it, i was wondering if a friend of mine could go pick up my bib number without me being present?
yes. but we may not have enough. we want to make sure people who show, ride away with a bib number.
Can I still sign up for this years race? i click on the registration link it says it cannot be found, or it has been removed. I can’t tell if its just me or I heard about this awesome event too late ):Thank you c:
We overbooked the numbers. But we are working on a strategy to get people on a reserve list.
Thanks for your patience.
Same here – I tried to sign up and the link doesnt work. is it too late? there is a group of us that want to join up!
We overbooked the numbers. But we are working on a strategy to get people on a reserve list.
Thanks for your patience.
can i pick up a friends number Saturday, if I have his signed form with me
yes. photocopy your ID and staple it to your signed waiver. Numbers MAY run out so we reserve the right to delay or refuse issuing a number to anyone who is not present. we want everyone who shows up, to ride away with a number.
Because registration is closed, can riders still show up and ride. Is there any chance to receive a BIB.
sign up for the PARTY INVITE/ Unclaimed numbers list. we will start re-assigning numbers at 9pm.

Just a lighting question: My rear light is attached to ME, not to the bike, though it’s plenty bright. Though I assume this will be cool, I’ve learned never to make assumptions. Am I good, or do I need a light bolted to the bike?
Thanks
you are good
Some friends and I are planning on going to the race on Sunday. We aren’t racing but we want to just ride the course with the rider zone. Only question I have is there an age requirement?
under 18 must be with guardian
okay. and what if our guardian is dropping us off at tangs and is going to drive down to thew finish line and wait for us. will that be okay?
Roadblock,
I accidentally deleted the email containing the directions to the registration party. I downloaded the waiver form before the email got deleted and I have my confirmation number. Is there a way I can get the directions emailed to me again?
Hey Roadblock if we have our waiver already signed, but we cant make it on Saturday to get our bib number can someone else that is going to get their bib number get mines too or do i have to go personally??
yes. photocopy your ID and staple it to your signed waiver. Numbers MAY run out so we reserve the right to delay or refuse issuing a number to anyone who is not present. we want everyone who shows up, to ride away with a number.
Hey Roadblock,
Did I see your handsome self in a Dickies commecial
Hey ROADBLOCK, since im only 17 i wasnt able to register but i copied and pasted the waiver and printed it out and had it signed. Can i take that to the registration party saturday and still get a number?
It doesnt say how much is it or if you guys charge to race???????
free
Hey, someone said something about bullhorn bars not being allowed. Is this true? Do I need to ride with drop or flat bars?
the reserve-register site is down… wanted to try to get on that list…. any idea if thats still possible?
I need info on where to park for the race. i want park some where between the finish and the start so i can warm up on the way and not ride so far on the way back. if you have any suggestions please let me know, something free is preferred.

Had a real great time with my buddy Steven! Made some new friends, saw some parts of L.A. I’d never seen before, and got a great work out! Thanks to Wolfpack Hustle for putting on this event, thanks to LAPD for keeping us safe, and thanks to the bike community of L.A. for making it fun! See everyone at the next event!
Also, was I too slow and missed the raffle? Didn’t make the finish line until like 6:30.
we didnt get to do the raffle… we are going to try and do it online. sorry about that. we were getting shoo-ed off the course too quickly.
2013 Wolfpack Hustle Crash Race. This is a race, a movement that all who love a bicycle must attend. Listen to your inner child, he/she wants to play at all hours of the night and why not at @ 0200. This was the best time that I can remember ever riding/racing my bicycle. I’m asking you, nay, I challenge you to race the WolfPack Hustle Series. This is a movement that you will never forget and it may just change your perspective of what racing a bicycle is truly about. With all of the hubbub of doping and negative crap WolfPack is the real deal that is all about having a good time with friends and others who dare to race at all hours of the day. Trust me you need to experience this.
Love!
John Wike
