The Marathon Crash Ride 2014

UPDATE 8:30PM MAR 4th I REGRET TO REPORT THAT THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED. Today. the Chief of Investigation and Enforcement of the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services made contact with Wolfpack Hustle and demanded that this event be cancelled or we may face criminal charges and bear liability for the costs of enforcement. This comes as a shock and disappointment. We have requested an expedited permit be granted but have been told initially that it is not possible at this point for one to be granted. Therefore we have no choice but to fully comply with the city's demands and we strongly urge that everyone obey the city's request not to engage in this event or any like it. Though unpermitted, this event has enjoyed the support of the LAPD and city going into it's fifth year now, Wolfpack Hustle has been cooperative, and had sought to partner with LAPD and all agencies. We've met with and cooperated with city officials on several occasions. For 2014, we've taken further measures to ensure that the participants are safe and to prevent any claims being made on the City of Los Angeles and other cities and agencies, via waivers, participant / competitor separation, and by purchasing event insurance. This event has been in the planning for at least one year, and builds on a community tradition referred to above. To threaten criminal prosecution 5 days prior to the event taking place comes as a shock and disappointment: The city is now demanding permits and payments where it has never done so in the past. THE MARATHON CRASH RACE IS CANCELLED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION. -Roadblock

Why are you charging to race?? If by your own declaration “this race is not permitted?” This is NO LONGER a CRASH race!!! I will be CRASHING the CRASH race!!!….Thank you very much! The streets will be open to ALL, Not just those with “bib numbers”.

You are free to do what you want, but you wont be considered a part of the race. I’m just doing this because people should have some insurance, even if its only enough to cover a minor to medium injury.

    To Wolf Pack Web Master,

I’m searching for local support for a unique grass roots Alleycat race starting in Los Angeles, Ca. We believe that this race is no ordinary event in the respect that what it brings to the table in social consciousness globally. That being said I’m looking for a crew of at least five dedicated persons and/or bike shop with a deep grass roots belief that the method of underground Alleycat racing has more to offer to the world when taken to the next step. Filmmaker Mr. Lucas Brunelle of Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund, Inc recommended to us that only two groups that could handle this task ULock Mob and Wolf Pack.
In short this will be a very large for-profit, social and fun making project for the Los Angeles Alleycat cyclist community… and globally? I have worked with notable local Southern California bicycle race vendor companies and it appears this is out of their league due to the social uniqueness, No rules, size of this Alleycat race and affect that this race will have to all walks of life. This will be the Longest and Largest Alley-Cat race… in fact the longest, largest and in duration race in the history of cycling.
My company is a conceptual patent company which we tend to think out of the box… a lot, to help people out. This for-profit and social statement race is No exception. We have all of the major components to make this work but one. Hope to hear from you soon, the clocks ticking for us due to the weather before the fun starts.

    Good Luck on your race.

    Respects,
Mr. Elehue Freemon and Friends of Big Bear City, CA

A week before the race and no set finish line, no date, time, or location for a registration party, and the daylight savings time question still looms. The registration party question is pertinent for me and others as some of us aren’t exactly that close to Los Angeles and need to plan in advance to make it (like leaving work early, for example).
I enjoyed the race last year, but this year it’s coming off as a last-minute set up and has me a bit worried. Please provide more info!
    Tah very much.

Sorry Vinny its coming together. This race is not sanctioned. It is not being held with the permission of LA or the Marathon. We do what we can to make everything happen but sometimes fall behind on schedule or the cities involved are unclear. Sorry for the delay.

I would love to save them to wear them after I actually ride with your group.

As a Beverly Hills resident, and a participant in the ride, I can attest that the route did not go by Whittier. It followed the marathon route, which came down Wilshire from Rodeo, and down Santa Monica towards the coast. Whittier would be several blocks away from the route. At your location, the riders would not even be there until about 5AM.

Many crews were setting up various stations at that time in preparation for the marathon. Unless you had seen several hundred riders pass along your street, it was likely not the marathon ride participants.

Great ride this morning and props to you for pulling it off at the last hour. I have seen a lot of posts on here and Facebook about t-shirts. I was planning on buying them at the registration party on 3/7 but that didn’t happen. Is there a website or location to get an XL and Medium to add to my collection from prior years?
